9/5/2025 – The FIDE Grand Swiss is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 4-15 September. An open event and a women's event are being played concurrently. Both tournaments are 11-round Swiss opens with classical time controls. Round 2

The FIDE Grand Swiss and the FIDE Women's Grand Swiss are 11-round Swiss opens.

  • The open section has a time control of 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for the next 20 moves, followed by 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from the first move.
  • The women's section has a time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from the first move.

In both tournaments, two spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournaments are up for grabs. 

According to the tournament regulations, the first tiebreak criterion for players with the same number of points is the Average Rating of Opponents Cut 1 (AROC 1), which means the rating of a player’s lowest-rated opponent is discarded in the calculation.

Rounds will be played daily from Thursday, 4 September until Monday, 15 September, except for the one rest day scheduled for Wednesday, 10 September.
